Summer is unofficially over, schools are back in session, the days are getting shorter, the air is cooler and the Pumpkin Spice Latte is back at Starbucks.
This was my first year ever trying it and I’m in love
This week I’m sharing 5 things to do on Long Island during the fall.
1. Super obvious but go pumpkin picking!
There’s so many farms through out Long Island that have pumpkins available usually until mid-late October. Here’s a few places throughout the Island – Stakey’s Pumpkin Farm, White Post Farms, and Brightwaters Farms & Nursery
2. Go on a hayride
Many of the same farms that offer pumpkin picking have hayrides. Try a haunted hayride in October!
3. Visit a winery
Wineries are not just for the summer. They can be just as fun a beautiful in the fall. A lot cooler too, which means enjoying the time spent sitting outside trying all new wines and not sweating. Long Island Wine Country is the official website for our wineries and has a list of the many different wineries Long Island has to offer.
4. Visit a farm stand
One of my favorites is Briermere Farms. There’s so much local produce available here on Long Island. Everything is made from scratch with ingredients straight from the farms.
5. Similar to pumpkin picking but go apple picking
Many don’t know that Long Island has many apple farms. The east end is full of apple orchards. The apples are perfect to make all those apple pies and apple crisp desserts for holiday get togethers. Some of the farms that offer pumpkin picking offer apple picking as well but here’s a few more – Woodside Orchards, Lewin Farms, & Milk Pail.
What are some things your towns are known for in the fall?
