I am usually an over packer. It doesn’t matter what kind of trip I’m going on, a road trip or flying somewhere, I am known to over pack. I find it difficult to stick to that under 50 lbs rule for my luggage. However, on my recent trip to Montreal, I was determined to bring only the essentials. The husband and I drove to Montreal so weight limit wasn’t a problem but I still didn’t want to bring too many unnecessary items with me. I packed two makeup bags to take with me, one for actual makeup the other for the brushes.
On past vacations, I’ve taken so much makeup it’s ridiculous. On vacation, I’m usually pretty lazy so then I find myself using very little of it or using the same lip shade every day. I’ve come to realize a ton of makeup options is really not necessary on vacation. I’d rather get ready as quickly as possible so I can go out and enjoy the day.
Here is what’s in my travel makeup bag:
1. Primer – Urban Decay Primer Spray & Ulta’s Fabulous Face Foundation Primer
I like to spray the Urban Decay one on right after I wash my face. I feel like it helps lock in moisture. Then I use the Fabulous Face Foundation Primer after I’ve moisturized.
2. Foundation – MATCHCo Foundation
I’ve shared my love for this foundation before. It’s lighter coverage than my other go to, Kat Von D Lock it Tattoo Foundation, so it’s perfect for vacation. I don’t like my makeup to be too overdone.
3. Concealer – Kat Von D Lock It Concealer, Mac Pro Longwear Concealer & Urban Decay Naked Skin Color Correct Fluid
I use the Kat Von D to cover any pimples or dark spots and I mix the Urban Decay (shade – pink) and Mac for under my eyes.
4. Setting Powder – Mac Mineralize Skinfinish Powder
My face is classic combination skin, a super oily t-zone and dry cheeks and chin. This helps set my foundation and keeps the oiliness under control.
5. Blush – Nars Blush Palette
This has enough shade options and prevents me from bringing multiple blush options. I liked to use (lighter shade) during the day and (darker shade) at night
6. Brows – Lorac Take a Brow
I don’t think Lorac even makes this any more or it’s just really hard to find sometimes. When I noticed it was out of stock a while ago online at Sephora and Ulta, I went to Ulta and bought a bunch in the store. I like my eyebrows to look noticeable but not overdone or drawn on.
7. Mascara – Buxom
I use the waterproof one when on vacation so I don’t have to worry about raccoon eyes.
8. Lips – Kylie Cosmetics
I like to take one neutral shade and a brighter shade for night. The Kylie lip kits are perfect for vacation because I can put it on in the morning and go about my day without worrying about touching up. I leave the liners at home and just take the gloss.
9. Eye Shadow Primer (not pictured) – Kat Von D Lock it Color Correcting Eyeshadow Primer
Now truthfully, this I can probably do without. On this last trip to Montreal, I didn’t put eye shadow on once but I have on past vacations and this primer is the best because it keeps my shadow in place and there is no need for touch ups.
10. Eye Shadow – Physicians Formula Palette
I like this palette because it’s small and has enough shades to create multiple looks.
11. Setting Spray – Urban Decay All Nighter
Last but most important, is the setting spray. It keep my makeup in place all day which is what I want when I’m out enjoying my vacation. No need to touch ups throughout the day.
What I leave home – eyeliner, bronzer, highlighter, eyelash primer, lip primer because who has time for all that when you’re trying to explore a city or lay out on the beach?
Here’s a tip – take travel size items with you if you can. I purchased the small bottles of Urban Decay primer spray and setting spray a couple years ago and kept them once they were empty. I just refill them from my full size bottles when I’m going away.
What makeup do you travel with?
